Dear Members,
I hope you are having a good year and are enjoying the summer that is quickly winding down. Now that we have passed the mid-year mark, I wanted to recap the first half of the year and look ahead to what we have planned.
One of our objectives as an organization is to work with WIA, carriers and infrastructure companies to provide educational and networking opportunities to make connections possible. While we certainly want to provide fun and unique networking opportunities, we also realize how important it is to keep our members informed through educational events when possible. Therefore, we kicked off the year accomplishing both by having an Educational Event at TopGolf keynoted by Alex Gellman, CEO and Co-Founder of Vertical Bridge. Attendees enjoyed the evening learning more about the challenges facing our industry, playing golf, and watching March Madness. All of this in one night!
I also hope you enjoyed our Annual Baseball Social at Nationals Park in May. It is always a well-attended event and provides an opportunity for all to enjoy a major league game while networking with colleagues from Maryland/DC and Virginia. We were also fortunate to attend a game that the Nationals won!
Our next big event is the Golf Tournament at Whiskey Creek Golf Club in Ijamsville, MD. Please save the date of Thursday, September 14th so you do not miss out. Details and registration information will be available soon via the website. An email blast will also be sent announcing the event.
The MDDCWA continues to be involved in the issues that face our industry. Tom Kane, our Treasurer, is now on WIA’s Board of Directors and Greg Rapisarda, MDDCWA Board Member, regularly participates in the WIA Government Affairs call for updates on a federal, state, and local level. We are committed to engagement on every level for the benefit of our members.
Finally, we also aim to give back to our community whenever possible. We began partnering with charitable organizations in 2007, and since then, we have donated over $300,000 to date. In addition to that, all proceeds from the Educational Event at TopGolf this year, went to the Alex Beiro (former President of VAWA) Family Trust to benefit Alex’s two sons after his unexpected passing in November 2022.
I hope the remainder of 2023 is prosperous for you all. We look forward to seeing each of you again at the Golf Tournament and thank you for your ongoing support.
Sincerely,
David
